Five new investors will explore coal in Malinau, East Kalimantan

Five new mining companies including PT Kayan Utama Coal, PT Kayan Makmur Sejahtera, PT Bara Malinau Utama, PT Bengalun Jaya Lestari and PT Pipit Citra Pedana have expressed their strong interest to develop coal mining in Malinau regency, East Kalimantan, local newspaper Kaltim Post reported on Friday.

The head of the regency?s mining office, Paul Usat, said in Malinau on Thursday that PT Bara Dinamika was the only company at present involved in coal mining activities in the regency.

According to him, PT Kayan Utama and PT Kayan Makmur had started their survey in their coal mining locations, PT Bara Malinau was still waiting for exploration permit from the regency?s authority while the two other companies PT Bengalun Jaya and PT Pipit Citra would soon begin their surveys.

He hoped that the five new investors, which will have concession areas of between 7,000 and 50,000 hectares in South Malinau, Langap and Sungai Bengalun districts, would be able start their production activities a year after they started their exploration activities. (*)
