Floating LNG plant considered to tap Masela gas

Japan oil firm INPEX is considering possibility to develop floating LNG plant in Masela PSC offshore block to tap the huge reserves of gas, BP Migas chairman Rachmat Soedibjo said.

?Considering its remote location offshore Timor, floating LNG plant is one of the most viable option,? said Rachmat. ?But it is still early as INPEX is still conducting delineation drilling to get the actual size of the reserves,? he said.

Rachmat said Masela gas field?s preliminary estimate stood at around 5 TCF.

In 2002, INPEX confirmed a large natural gas accumulation in Masela block after two appraisal wells, Abadi-2 and Abadi-3, tested a total 32.4 million cubic feet a day (MMCFD) of natural gas - or equivalent to 5,600 barrels a day of crude. (godang)
