Fly ash and bottom ash to be more regulated

A currently drafted Government Regulation (GR) to ascertain control of hazardous and toxic waste (B3 Waste) treatment and management, still exempts fly ash and bottom ash from the category of B3 Waste. However this proposed regulation will require a stricter waste treatment of fly ash and bottom ash, although not as tight as applied for B3 waste.
?These substances (fly ash and bottom ash) shall be stored in a waste pile for a year (the common B3 Waste can?t be stored more than three months), while if they are stored in landfill, the landfill type three is enough already to use,? said Masnellyarti Hilman, Deputy for B3 Waste Management and Treatment at the Ministry of Environment and Natural Conservation during a public hearing regarding the new GR recently.
In this new GR, fly ash and bottom ash will be classified as ?specific waste?, altogether with another 14 substances. These 15 substances are still allowed to be dumped at the sea.
