Former workers demonstrate against ConocoPhillips in Jakarta

About 150 former workers of Gulf Resources Indonesia, which was acquired by Conoco Canada Resources Limited in 2002, on Thursday held a protest rally against ConocoPhillips of Indonesia near its Jakarta office.

Conoco Canada Resources Limited is a unit of U.S. integrated energy company ConocoPhillips.

Claiming to represent the labor union of Gulf Resources Indonesia, the protesters urged the management of ConocoPhillips to negotiate with them about its job termination package.

They complained that ConocoPhillips? Mutually Agreed Termination (MAT) package, which was used to discharge them, had been formulated without consultation with them.

The former workers asked whether the company had plans to reemploy them. (godang)
