Four bidders submit bid document for C. Java power plant tender

State-electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) said that of the seven bidders which passed pre-qualification tender to develop the 2 x 1,000 MW Central Java coal-fired power plant, only four have submitted bid documents, PLN?s president director said Sunday.

PLN's president director Dahlan Iskan said the four bidders that have submitted the bid document are the consortium of J Power-Itochu-Adaro, Chinese firm Shenhua, Japanese firm Marubeni Corporation and the consortium of CNTIC ? Guandong Yudean.

The deadline for the bid document submission was April 29, 2011.

PLN will evaluate the four bidders and it will announce the winner of the tender in June this year, he said.

Earlier, seven foreign companies have passed the prequalification phase of the tender, that is 1) China Shenhua Energy Company Limited 2) CNTIC ? Guandong Yudean consortium 3) J Power-Itochu-Adaro consortium 4) Korea Electric Power Company (KEPCO) 5) Marubeni Corporation 6) Mitsubishi Corporation 7) Mitsui-International Power consortium.

The project will be developed under independent power producer (IPP) and build-own-operate-transfer (BOOT) schemes with PLN obliged to buy the power supplies under a 25-year power purchasing agreement (PPA).

The project will cost about US$3.2 billion to build as part of the public private partnership (PPP). The power plant is expected to start commercial operation date (COD) in 2017. (*)
