Four coal companies have submitted proposal to the Ministry of Trade to get the registered exporter status, according to a senior official.
?At the moment (as per August 22, 2104), there are four coal companies which has submitted their proposal to our office, they are PT Trubaindo Coal Mining, PT Indominco Mandiri, PT Bharinto Ekatana, PT Jorong Barutama Greston,? said Didi Sumedi, Director for Coal and Energy Export at the Ministry of Trade to Petromindo recently.
The ministry has recently introduced a new regulation requiring coal miners to first obtain registered exporter status to be allowed to ship the commodity overseas in a policy aimed at helping the government to obtain proper royalty and curb illegal mining.
The miners, however, must first obtain recommendation from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) to be able to get the registered exporter status.
The new ruling was supposed to be effective September 1, 2014, but the Ministry of Trade has decided to delay it for a month as miners need more time to be able to complete a number of requirements set by the MEMR to obtain the necessary recommendation letter.
