Four companies interested to build petrochemical plant in Bintuni

Ministry of Industry stated that there are four big companies which have expressed interest to participate in a planned tender to build a petrochemical plant in Bintuni, Papua.
The four competing firms are Ferrostaal (Germany), Sojitz (Japan), LG Chemical (South Korea), and PT Pupuk Indonesia.
"The investment value of the project is about US$10-15 billion," Minister of Industry Saleh Husin told Petromindo.com recently.
Teluk Bintuni is one of the 14 industrial zones proposed by the ministry of industry to be developed in Papua.
Expert for the minister of industry, Nur Iman Gunarba said that in the industrial area the sub-sectors which are the focus of development include oil and gas, petrochemical, and fertilizer. The largest expected investment will be for petrochemical plant which will supply products to downstream industries such as fertilizer that supports food production, industrial paints, textiles, tires, explosives, packaging, bottles and others.
"The gas supply for the petrochemical plant is planned to be sourced from Bintuni," he said, without disclosing the name of the gas supplier.
