Four consortiums have been selected to enter the second stage of a tender process for the development of a 2x300 MW power plant in South Sumatra under the independent power producer (IPP) scheme.

PLN director for strategic supplies, Bagiyo Riawan said on Wednesday that eight consortiums had participated in the PQ tender, but only four had met the qualification requirement to develop the Sumatra Selatan 6 plant.

He said that the four consortiums were expected to file for the so-called Request for Proposal document next week. ?Discussions are currently underway with the would-be developers to make sure that the RFP they submit will be ?apple to apple? competition,? he said.

The estimated $750 million Sumatra Selatan 6 plant is part of the five mine-mouth power plants PLN plans to build in Sumatra. The other four are Sumatra Selatan 5 (2x150 MW), Sumatra Selatan 7 (2x150 MW), Riau (2x300 MW), and West Sumatra (2x100 MW). (godang)
