Freeport closes mining road following shooting incident

Gold and copper giant PT Freeport Indonesia has temporarily shut down its Timika mining road following shooting incident by an unidentified people at a convoy of three company vehicles at Mile 61 in Tembagapura District, Mimika Regency, Papua Province, Sunday morning, Antara reported.
PT Freeport Spokesman Riza Pratama was quoted by the news agency as saying that in line with existing procedure, the mining road would be closed down for 24 hours. ?The action (closing down of the road) is to allow for thorough investigation in the area and to ensure that the area is safe again,? he said.
No fatalities were reported from the shooting incident. (*)
