PT Freeport Indonesia, an affiliate of the U.S.-based copper and gold giant miner Freeport-McMoran, is continuing to carry out its activities in Irian Jaya normally despite the rising tension following the recent occupation by Free Papua Movement (OPM) members of army and police stations and other public facilities in Ilaga near the company?s operation area, says Freeport?s spokesperson Siddharta Moersjid.
Ilaga is located about 80 kilometers from Freeport?s Grasberg mining area.
Freeport?s executives were sure that the Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) and the police would do their best to maintain peace and stability in the area, Moersjid told Petromindo.com on Tuesday. (godang/alex)
