Freeport-McMoRan said PT Freeport Indonesia's Manyar copper smelter has received the Copper Mark, an internationally recognized assurance standard for responsible copper production.
The company said in the social media posting uploaded on Wednesday that the designation followed an independent assessment of the smelter's performance against environmental, social and governance standards, including labor practices, environmental management and business integrity.
Freeport-McMoRan said the Manyar facility was designed to incorporate responsible production standards from the early stages of project development. The company's other operating sites have also obtained the Copper Mark or the equivalent certification for molybdenum operations.
According to the company, the certification provides customers and other stakeholders with independent assurance that the Manyar smelter operates in accordance with internationally recognized standards for responsible copper production.
Freeport-McMoRan said the certification marks an operational milestone for the Manyar smelter and the team responsible for bringing the facility into operation.
