Freeport McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc's mine in Papua may resume production after an investigation into the recent deadly mining accident has been completed, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Jero Wacik said.
?We?ll wait for the report of the investigating team,? said Jero on Monday when asked by reporters on when Freeport could resume production at the gold and copper mine, where an underground training facility collapsed on May 14, killing 28 workers.
He said that production at the Freeport mine in Papua has been suspended following the incident. He could not assess on how long the investigation would be completed. ?The quicker (the investigation) is completed, the better it will be.?
He said that the investigation team was established on May 22, comprising experts from the Institute Technology of Bandung, and it may request for the assistance of international experts if necessary.
