Gold and copper miner PT Freeport Indonesia holds a meeting on Thursday with government officials to decide on the company's 2004 working plan and budget, according to Director General of Geology Simon Sembiring.

Simon said that the government had requested Freeport to seriously observe safety aspects in its mining operation, to help avoid fatal mining accident.

Freeport Indonesia, which operates the Grasberg open pit mine in Papua, has been strongly criticized for two mining accidents last year which killed a number of mining workers.

But despite the accidents, Freeport was on track to meet its annual sales of 1.33 billion pounds of copper and 2.45 million ounces of gold.(Godang)
