Gold and copper giant PT Freeport Indonesia has resumed operation at its open pit mine in Grasberg, Papua Province, after reaching an agreement with its workers union on Saturday to end strike.
?Following the agreement, mining activities at the Grasberg open pit have resumed,? said PT Freeport Spokesman Riza Pratama on Monday, but did not provide furthers.
As has been previously reported, around 200 workers at the open pit mine in Mimika started strike on September 28 as they demanded among others equal bonus to those received by workers at the underground mine.
The Papua province police, together with Mimika administration, facilitated a meeting on Thursday and Friday between the company and workers union to seek solution and end the strike.
