Friday, March 10 2006 - 05:13 AM WIB

A pipeline that transported concentrate from PT. Freeport Indonesia?s processing facilities to loading port leaked on Friday morning, forcing the company to use back-up pipeline.

Mindo Pangaribuan, spokesperson of the Papuan miner said that the 6.5 inches pipe leaked in Mile 32 at 5AM. Pangaribuan said the cause of the leakage is still under investigation and concentrate transporting had been diverted to back-up pipeline system.

Pangaribuan said Freeport?s operations were unaffected by the leak.

A Timika resident told Petromindo.Com that people were flocking to the leak location to collect the concentrate.

Freeport Indonesia is a subsidiary of US miner Freeport McMoRan Copper&Gold. (godang)
