Freeport?s Grasberg mine operation unaffected by earthquakes

A government official said Friday that operations at PT Freeport Indonesia?s Grasberg copper-gold mine in Papua province weren't affected by a series of earthquakes Friday.
?They (Freeport) have confirmed that the earthquakes happened quite far away from their mining site,? Geology and Mineral Resources Director General Simon F. Sembiring told Petromindo.Com.
Reports said that a series of powerful earthquakes measuring up to magnitude 6.9 on Friday struck Nabire city, which is located about 200 kilometers from Freeport?s operation area. (alex/godang)
