An unidentified gang has reportedly fired shots at PT Freeport Indonesia a subsidiary of Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold Inc security patrol team car in Mil 69 security check point on a road linking Timika-Tembagapura early Sunday. The shots allegedly came from two different places but no casualties were found in the incident. Kompas reported Monday.
?The incident is now under police investigation? PT Freeport Indonesia?s spokesman Mindo Pangaribuan told Petromindo.com Monday, adding that the company?s heavy equipment was also the target of the shots.
The accident had no affect on the company?s operation, he said.
Police have reportedly found seven bullet covers of a long range riffle in one of the places allegedly used as the point of shots.
?One shot hit left front part of the car and another struck the back part, breaking the glass into pieces. So, the shots must have come from two different points,? said director for Papua?s police crime and detective commissioner Paulus Waterpau. (*)
