Freeport stops convoy following shooting incident

Gold and copper giant PT Freeport Indonesia temporarily stopped Thursday afternoon a convoy on its way up to the company?s mining site in Tembagapura, Mimika, Papua Province, following a shooting incident.
PT Freeport Spokesman Riza Pratama was quoted by Antara as saying Friday that the shooting incident occurred at Mile Point 60. He added that road access from Mile Point 40 to Mile Point 60 has been shut down and the entire convoy has been temporarily stopped until further notice.
?The condition is still the same. Convoy is still suspended. In the meantime, workers could not go up to work,? he said on Friday, adding that the company prioritizes the safety of its workers.
Antara said that the shooting, by an unidentified group, has injured a police officer from broken glasses of the vehicles.
Mimika Police Chief, Victor D. Mackbon said that the police are investigating the incident. (*)
