The operation of gold mining giant PT Freeport Indonesia is suspected to have already entered the Laurentz National Park in the West Papua province particularly due to no clear boundary between company's mining operation and the conservation area, according to local informal leader.
"The operation of Freeport Indonesia has entered the Laurentz National Park because there's no clear boundary," said Rolando Edmond, head of the Baliem Valley Foundation, which groups several local tribes.
Edmond was speaking at a seminar.
He called on the government to take immediate measure to protect the national park. (*)
