The fuel supply in Jakarta, Banten and West Java reached a total of 15.2 million kilo liters worth about Rp 22.33 trillion during the year 2004, exceeding the initial target by 6.29 percent, Investor Daily reported on Monday.
General Manager of Pertamina's Marketing Unit III, Tjandra Putra Kencana, said in Jakarta on Sunday that the total fuel demand in Jakarta, Banten and West Java increased by 7.8 percent during the year.
Tjandra said that the demand for petroleum fuel rose by eight percent to 5.4 million kilo liters in 2004, while diesel fuel demand surged by 13.2 percent to six million kilo liters. The demand of kerosene, meanwhile, remained stable at about 3.8 million kilo liters.
In 2005, the supply of heavily subsidized kerosene in Jakarta, Banten and West Java would be cut by about 10 percent in a bid to reduce the government's subsidiy expenses, Tjandra said.
Tjandra also said that the demand for fuel and diesel oil would continue to surge in 2005 due to the increase in the number of new vehicles. (*)
