IDX-listed coal mining firm PT Garda Tujuh Buana Tbk has resumed coal production at its Bunyu Island coal mine in Bulungan Regency, East Kalimantan Province, on rising price of the commodity, Kontan reported on Thursday.
The paper quoted Pardheep Dhir, company Commissioner, as saying that production as per February has reached 200,000 tons of coal, and is optimistic to meet the full-year target of 2 million tons.
Garda Tujuh resumed coal production on Bunyu Island in January of this year after having suspending it since February of 2015 due to weak coal price environment.
The company has appointed PT VPR Laximindo as mining contractor. It will export its coal production to India via Singapore-based trading firm Alata Overseas Pte Ltd.
The Bunyu Island coal mine has coal reserves of 72.8 million tons with calorific value of 5,100 kcal/kg.
Elsewhere, Pardheep said that the company will increase production next year to 3 million tons as it will diversify its export market to include China and Vietnam. (*)
