Gas blowout at PetroChina-operated Jabung block

A gas blow out occurred during well work over at PetroChina-operated Jabung PSC block onshore southern part of Sumatra, an official said on Friday.

?Blowout occurred at Gemah-21 well during workover,? said Trijana Kartoatmodjo, BPMIGAS deputy-chairman in charge of operations told Petromindo.Com. Trijana said fire had been put off but He did not give further detail whether the incident disrupt gas operations.

Budi Setiadi, a PetroChina official contacted by Petromindo.Com confirmed the blow out, but did not give further detail.

Another PetroChina official contacted said that the emergency team was in the process of shutting in the well.

Jabung block is currently exporting its gas production to Singapore via pipeline.

Operator PetroChina and Malaysian oil company Petronas each has 42.5 percent working interest in the Jabung block, with state oil and gas company PT Pertamina has the remaining 15 percent.(godang)
