A 50 MW gas engine power plant (PLTMG) in Nii Tanasa Village, Lalunggasumeeto District, Konawe Regency, Southeast Sulawesi Province, has started commercial operation following inauguration ceremony on Monday by state-owned electricity firm PT PLN.

PLN Director of Business for Sulawesi Region, Syamsul Huda said that the PLTMG Nii Tanasa will help the utility firm realize a target to electricity entire villages in Sulawesi in 2018.

He said that with the operation of the new PLTMG, PLN will terminate the lease of a number of diesel-fired power plants, which will help cut down power supply cost.
