Gas price for industries to rise April 1: PGN

Despite protests from industrial users, state-owned gas distribution company PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) will go ahead with its plan to raise the price of gas by 10-15 percent on April 1, 2010.
PGN?s corporate secretary Wahid Sutopo said on Monday that the selling price of gas for industrial consumers remained unchanged since 2007, standing at US$3.8 per million British thermal unit (MMBTU), excluding transportation costs, for big industries.
?PGN's gas price has been and will always be adjusted to the (changes) in the price set by the upstream sector (gas producers) and depends on the locations of the buyers," he said.
Chairman of the Association of Indonesian Entrepreneurs (Apindo) Sofyan Wanandi said the business community is still opposed to the price increase plan. He called on PGN to make a fair compromise with the business community.(*)
