Gas supply for 740 MW Cilegon combined cycled power plant in Banten from Chinese firm CNOOC has risen to the level stated in the contract.
State electricity company PLN's Director of Power Generation and Primary Energy Ali Herman Ibrahim said on Monday the CNOOC had started to supply 80 MMCFD, twice the previous delivery of 40 MMCFD.
The normal gas supply allows the plant to generate up to 600 megawatts, close to its full capacity of 740 MW. The power plant needs a total of 110 MMCFD to run at full capacity.
PLN expects the remaining 50 MMCFD gas supply to come from state gas company PGN's South Sumatra-West Java distribution line, Ibrahim said.
PLN officially launched the operation of the power plant in May 2006 and planned to operate it at full capacity in April this year. Yet, the lack of gas supplies had made PLN unable to reach the target and even forced it to shut it down in June this year. PLN resumed the operation of the power plant at low capacity in July this year. (Bernard)
