Gas supply for PGN from West Java declines

State owned gas distribution company PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) has suffered a shortage of gas supply for its West Java distribution area due to the drop in the gas supply from state owned oil and gas company.
PGN’s corporate secretary Widyatmiko Bapang said in a statement on Wednesday that Pertamina had reduced its gas supply for PGN to about 60 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) from 85 MMSCFD previously.
He said that under the existing contract, Pertamina should supply 98 MMSCFD to PGN until 2011. But, since the end of 2005 until the end of March this year, Pertamina was only able to provide only 85 MMSCFD.
"The gas reduction in the gas supply is feared to affect a number of industrial users such as textile, glove, steel and ceramic producers in West Java which still rely much on PGN for their gas needs," he said.
According to Widyatmiko, PGN is still negotiating with Pertamina to restore the gas supply to 85 MMSCFD so that the gas supply to customers could return back to normal. (godang)
