The gas supply from BP Indonesia?s offshore fields in Kangean, Pengerungan, East Java is still below the normal capacity although the oil and gas giant has managed to repair the damage in the company?s hydraulic water solution equipment, Kompas reported on Tuesday.

BP?s Vice President for Government and Public Affairs, Satya W. Yudha said on Monday that the damage in the hydraulic water solution which is used to separate water sea and gas had been repaired but he added that it would take seven days for the company to supply the gas at a normal capacity of 180 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD).

"We need at least seven days to carry out assessment on all the hydraulic water solution equipment before pumping the gas at a normal capacity," he was quoted as saying by the daily.

General Manager of the branch office of state owned gas distribution company PGN in East Java said on Monday that the gas supply had slightly increased to 170 MMCFD from less than 100 MMCFD last week.

Major customers such as Petrokimia Gresik only received about 35 bBTU as compared to its normal supply of 60 bBTU. The company was forced to halt production activities for 20 days due to the shortage of the gas supply, causing a total loss of Rp 28 billion to the company.

Gas supply from BP Indonesia?s gas field in Kangean, Pengerungan, Madura to East Java has been interrupted again since Friday, last week, only several weeks after the oil and gas giant resumed its normal operation following the leakage in its pipeline. This time, the gas supply interruption was caused by the failure of its hydraulic water system to separate the water from the gas drilled by the company from its offshore wells. (*)
