Natural gas supply from Pagerungan gas field offshore East Java has increased to 194 million standard cubic feet per day (MMCFD) after the operator, Anglo-American energy giant BP managed to repair a gas well which had been shut down since August.

?The well re-operation has added additional 17 MMCFD of gas supply to East Java. The increase, even tough relatively small is helping to add gas supply,? said Dharma Jenie, a senior BP Indonesia official in charge of East Java operation.

Dharma said the current output of around 200 MMCFD could be maintained until around May next year. Afterward, decline is gas supply will be unavoidable due the reserves decline.

He also said works to repair gas pipeline that connected Pagerungan field to East Java may commence as early as March next year.

?BP together with Pertamina is studying the extent of the repair scope. We hope gas could still be flowed during the repair period,? he said.

BP is the largest East Java gas producer, supplying gas to state electricity company PLN, state fertilizer company and state gas distribution company PGN. East Java is in severe shortage of gas supply due to constant decrease of supply from Pagerungan and increasing costumers demand. (alex)
