Navigat, a leading integrated developer of distributed power projects in Southeast Asia, is GE?s authorized distributor of Jenbacher gas engines in Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore. Under the frame agreement, GE will supply 70 natural-gas fueled engines for Navigat-owned independent power plant (IPP) projects in Indonesia and another 30 engines for palm oil biogas power projects in Thailand, GE said in a statement on Wednesday.
GE is completing the shipment of the last portion of a total of 70 engines?consisting mostly of its 3.3-MW Type 6 Jenbacher units?in fourth quarter of 2013, which will mostly be used to enable Navigat to meet its project delivery requirements for the IPP projects in Indonesia. The IPP facilities will generate reliable, cleaner-burning supplies of electricity for PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN), Indonesia?s state-owned grid operator.
GE also completes the delivery of a total of 30 of its 1.06-MW Type 3 and 1.4-MW Type 4 Jenbacher biogas engines to Thailand in the fourth quarter of 2013. Navigat will install the biogas engines at various palm oil production sites where the units will generate renewable on-site power. GE sold its first Jenbacher engines for Thailand?s palm oil industry in 2006.
?We decided to place this bulk order for GE?s Jenbacher gas engines because the technology offers the fuel flexibility we need to effectively utilize the domestic energy resources of Indonesia and Thailand to address the local energy demands of these countries. GE also has the manufacturing capacity to quickly deliver such a large gas engines order in 2013,? said Willi Goldschmidt, CEO of Navigat Group.
?We are excited to work again with Navigat to showcase the benefits of distributed power in Indonesia, Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia,? said Karl Wetzlmayer, general manager gas engines for GE Power & Water. ?This is one of the largest bulk orders we have ever received for our natural gas and biogas engines, reflecting the growing diversity of industrial on-site power projects worldwide.?
?GE is committed to building innovative solutions for today's environmental challenges while driving economic growth for Indonesia. GE?s Jenbacher gas engine is part of our commitment to bring the latest technology to help increase electrification rate and promote the utilization of new and renewable energy in Indonesia,? said Handry Satriago, President & CEO GE Indonesia.
GE's Jenbacher units are part of GE?s ecomagination portfolio. To qualify for the portfolio, products and services must demonstrate both improved economic value and environmental performance. Ecomagination is GE?s commitment to provide innovative solutions that maximize resources, drive efficiencies and make the world work better.
GE?s Jenbacher engine technology is part of the company?s portfolio of innovative distributed power solutions, designed to give businesses and communities around the world the ability to generate reliable and efficient power using a variety of fuels in very divers locations, whether on or off the grid. GE?s distributed power portfolio also includes GE?s aeroderivative gas turbines, Waukesha gas engines and Clean Cycle waste heat recovery solutions.
