US firm General Electric announced recently it will provide four TM2500 mobile gas turbine generator sets for Indonesia to be installed in Gorontalo to help meet growing electricity demand in the province.

The company said in a September 10 press statement that the four generator sets, which will produce a combined 100 MW power output, are being purchased and installed by state-controlled engineering and construction firm PT Pembangunan Perumahan Tbk as the EPC management company for the project. State-owned electricity firm PT PLN will operate the four units.

It added that the generators set can produce electricity output for approximately 25,000 homes.

GE?s TM2500 generator set, which is trailer mounted and can be installed faster than traditional power plants, is ideally suited to meet Indonesia?s growth plans, GE said.

The government of Indonesia has announced a five-year program to develop a combined 35,000 MW power plants until 2019 to help meet growing power demand in the country.

GE said its technology is responsible for approximately more than 20 percent of Indonesia?s electricity generation, and more than 8 GW of electricity is generated from GE?s gas turbines. GE has been in Indonesia since 1940, investing more than US$1 billion.
