US giant General Electric plans to spend US$700 million to build integrated coal gasification and combined cycle power plant (IGCC) in Indonesia, Bisnis Indonesia reported Wednesday. GE Energy ’s Country Executive Gatot Prawiro said in According to Gatot, GE would build several units of gasification plant, with coal expected to be supplied from domestic resources. “One unit gasification plant needs around 3,000 tons of coal per day,” he said. Gatot said that aside from supplying power plants, gas produced by the IGCC could also be used to meet gas demand from fertilizer plants. Consortium GE and Sumitomo are joining a tender for repowering of the 1,300 MW Tanjung Priok gas turbine power plant, he said. Gatot also said that GE would also study the possibility of building a small generator unit with a capacity of below 10 MW in the country. “But this remains under study,” he added. (*)
