GE Indonesia this year will focus on providing supporting technology for captive power projects developed by private power utility (PPU) especially in industrial estates.

From September 2015 until March 2015, GE conducted research in cooperation with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) related to technology and financial benefits that can be gained by industries from developing captive power plant.

George Arie W. Djohan, Country Leader at GE Indonesia, told Petromindo.com that industries such as smelter projects located in regions with poor quality power connectivity can benefit from captive power generation in the forms of lower production cost and stable production activity as they can avoid losses from recurring blackouts.

?According to the research, by developing PPU can save US$450 million per year due to 60 hours per year of blackouts,? George said, adding that having own power supply can cut down operating cost by up to 0.9 US cent per kWh.
