GE Energy, a unit of US giant General Electric announced on Tuesday it had received a contract to supply a second compressor train for the new Tangguh LNG Project in Bintuni Bay Regency, Papua Province.

Last year, GE was selected to supply the first compressor train for the project. When both trains are completed, the new facility, which is operated by BP Tangguh LNG Indonesia, will have an annual gas liquefaction capacity of at least seven million tons of LNG.

GE Energy's oil and gas unit, based in Florence, Italy, will supply the two main refrigerant turbo compressor strings for the second compressor train. The mixed refrigerant string will include one low-pressure axial compressor and one medium-pressure centrifugal compressor. The propane string will include one low-pressure and one high-pressure barrel centrifugal compressor. Each string will be driven by a GE Frame 7EA gas turbine and a helper/starter steam turbine.

The scope of GE's contract also includes engineering and procurement services, fabrication and packaging and spare parts.

The turbo compressor strings will be manufactured at GE facilities in Greenville, South Carolina and Florence and Massa Carrara, Italy. They are scheduled for shipment in 2005.(alex)
