PT Borneo Indobara (BIB), a subsidiary of PT Golden Energy Mines Tbk (IDX: GEMS), has signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with state-owned PT PLN (Persero) to supply electricity for BIB’s mining operations in South Kalimantan.
The agreement was formalized on October 7, 2025, in Jakarta, with BIB’s Director of Operations, R. Utoro, representing the company. Under the PPA, PLN will provide 75 megavolt-amperes (MVA) of electricity to the BIB site between 2026 and 2027, with plans to expand supply to 200 MVA by 2028.
GEMS stated that the program supports its Sustainable Green Mining initiative and Indonesia’s wider zero-emission objectives. The electrification effort is designed to reduce carbon emissions, improve operational efficiency, and decrease reliance on diesel fuel.

Bonifasius, President Director of GEMS, said the company expects the electrification program to reduce production costs by up to US$3 per ton over three years.
BIB is one of GEMS’ largest coal-producing units, and the PPA represents a step toward integrating renewable and cleaner energy sources into its mining operations in collaboration with PLN.
