GEMS in talks to supply coal to 1,320 MW power station

IDX-listed coal mining firm PT Golden Energy Mines Tbk (GEMS) is in negotiation to supply coal to Tanjung Jati A power plant under a 20-year contract.

CEO Bonifasius told Petromindo.com on Wednesday that if a deal is reached, GEMS will be supplying 1 million tons of coal annually from its South Kalimantan mine unit PT Borneo Indobara starting 2020.

The Tanjung Jati A power plant project with planned capacity of 1,320 MW in Cirebon, West Java Province, is being developed by Malaysian firm YTL Power International Bhd.

Apart from YTL, GEMS is also negotiating to supply coal to PLN?s coal trading unit PT PLN Batubara. He however, did not disclose the coal volume.

GEMS has also secured spot coal supply tender this year with Korean power developer Korean Southern Power Company Limited (Kospo) with total volume of 400,000 tons. First cargo was shipped in March, with a second cargo slated to be shipped this month and another in June, Bonifasius said.
