Malaysian firm Genting Oil will modify its initial plan for the Kasuri block in West Papua should the Asap-4x well flow significant amount of oil. The firm is planning a drill steam test (DST) on the well in July this year.

The firm was initially focused on plan to develop the gas reserves of the block. The firm has discovered gas reserves in other wells of the block, which upstream authority SKK Migas estimates at around 6 tcf. The firm has however found oil indications at Asap-4x well.

?The development concept of Kasuri will change, if Asap-4x flows oil economically. Thus far we have been focused on gas. Drilling results of Asap-4x show indicates oil presence.. If the oil flow is big, we shall first produce oil rather than gas,? Genting Oil?s General Manager Nara Nilandaroe told Petromindo.com.

Genting has yet to submit a Plan of Development for the block.

Nara said the firm will use a 750-horse power rig owned by PT Krui Dimas for the DST.
