Malaysian firm Genting Oil may delay the submission of its Plan of Development (PoD) for Kasuri PSC in West Papua due to problems caused by underperforming rig and public protests, a senior official at upstream authority SKK Migas.

Genting is supposed to submit its PoD in early 2014 but it may have to delay the submission of the PoD due to the above-mentioned problems.

?The problems faced by Genting Oil include the protest from the local community who consider the firm to have an arrogant behavior. They (the firm?s officials) approached the local people together with ?those wearing green uniform? (military members).

?Furthermore, the rig used by the firm, which is made in China, does not perform well, it is ?coughing?. Probably, the rig is not suitable for that area,? Elan Biantoro, SKK Migas? spokesman, told Petromindo.com on Thursday.

SKK Migas, Elan said, still expects the firm is able to submit its PoD in early 2014.
