Upstream oil and gas authority BPMIGAS warned oil and gas firm Genting Oil to be extra careful in proceeding with its current geology and geophysical (G&G) activities in the waters of Raja Ampat, West Papua, to avoid causing damage to the local underwater environment, which is popular to scuba divers around the world.
?The current exploration work offshore Raja Ampat is still at the G&G stage, so there?s no physical activity yet there. But we must be extra careful so as not to destroy the environment, which is very sensitive,? BPMIGAS Deputy for Operational Control, Gde Pradnyana told Petromindo.com Thursday.
He did not provide details. Malaysia?s Genting Oil holds a 100 percent stake in the West Papua?s Kasuri oil and gas block.
