Genting Energy through its subsidiary PT Lestari Banten Energi (LBE) is preparing a tender for the procurement of coal for PLTU Banten coal-fired power plant which will be built by the company in Serang, Banten.

?We will soon open a tender for long-term coal supply for the power plant. All the coal will be bought from the domestic market,? the director of Genting Energy Ling Eng Kheat said in Jakarta. The tender would be held for the supply of coal for between five and ten years. But he did not mention when the tender would be held.

?The power plant will need between 60,000 and 70,000 tons a month,? he said, adding that he could not estimate the price of coal to be bought, but in the tender, the company would use a reference price of US$50 per ton.

On July 10, state electricity company PLN signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with LBE. Under the agreement, PLN will buy electricity to be produced by PLTU Banten which would be built by LBE with a capacity of 660 megawatt (MW) in Serang regency, Banten. The power plant is expected to begin commercial operation in the second half of 2017.
