Malaysia conglomerate Genting Berhad reported that its Banten 660MW coal-fired power plant has started commercial operations on March 2017.

The company said in a Quarterly Report released Monday that the IPP power plant will start revenue contribution from the second quarter of 2017.

Genting owns 95% of the power plant through its subsidiary PT Lestari Banten Energi.

Lestari signed the power purchase agreement with PLN in July of 2012, under which the utility will purchase 600 MW of the plant?s capacity, while the remainder will be allocated for Lestari?s own use.

The power plant is developed under a scheme of build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT), which after 25 years will be owned by PLN. The PLTU Banten utilizes the supercritical technology with total investment of US$1 billion.
