State-owned geothermal energy firm PT Geo Dipa Energi said it will change its name into PT Geothermal Nusantara this year as the government has assigned the company to develop more geothermal working areas (WKPs).
Geo Dipa said in a statement issued last week that aside from managing two existing WKPs including Dieng in Central Java, and Patuha in West Java, the government has assigned the company to manage and develop two more geothermal working areas (WKPs) including Umbul Telomoyo in Central Java and Arjuno Welirang in East Java.
Geo Dipa President Director Riki Firmandha that the assignment of two new WKPs to the company is in line with the government?s target to boost geothermal power generation capacity to 7,200 MW by 2025. Currently, geothermal installed capacity is around 1,600 MW.
The company, along with the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry?s New and Renewable Energy Directorate General, updated the East Java administration on June 13 to seek support for the Arjuno Welirang project.
?WKP Arjuno Welirang has a potential power resource of 180 MW. We will find out about its reserve capacity, so we will be able to provide electricity to East Java residents, especially those living near Arjuno Welirang,? said Geo Dipa Energi finance director Muhammad Ikbal Nur.
