State geothermal developer PT Geo Dipa Energi (GDE) is targeting commercial operations for its 55 megawatt Dieng Unit 2 geothermal plant around April to May 2028, extending its earlier timeline, a company executive said.

Director of Business Development and Exploration Ilen Kardani said the schedule is based on a 28 month engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract currently underway.

The revised timeline is longer than earlier expectations. In September 2025, Geo Dipa signed a $122 million EPC contract for the project with a consortium of PT Timas Suplindo and PT Rekayasa Engineering, with initial plans targeting completion in 20 to 24 months and start-up by late 2027, according to President Director Yudistian Yunis.

The project timeline had already been pushed back from an earlier 2025 target due to regulatory changes, including domestic content requirements for power infrastructure.

Geo Dipa is also developing another 55 MW geothermal unit at Patuha, West Java, where construction progress has reached about 35%, with activity expected to accelerate after mid-2026 as key equipment arrives.

Peak construction at Patuha Unit 2 is expected in the fourth quarter of 2026, followed by commissioning, with commercial operations targeted for May 2027, Kardani said.

The company, which is under the Ministry of Finance, currently operates geothermal facilities on Java including Patuha Unit 1 (55 MW), Dieng Unit 1 (55 MW) and a smaller 10 MW unit at Dieng.

Geo Dipa plans further expansion in the Dieng area, with multiple additional units under development as part of its broader geothermal growth strategy.
