Independent power producer PT Sejahtera Alam Energy (SAE) is scheduled to start next week initial drilling program of the planned PLTP Baturaden geothermal power plant project, located in the slope of Gunung Slamet Mountain in Banyumas Regency, Central Java Province.

?Drilling of the first (geothermal) well will be held next week,? said Geothermal Director at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Yunus Saifulhak to Petromindo.com on Monday.

He said that the drilling equipment have arrived at the drilling site. The drilling program will be carried out by Halliburton, he added. ?The target is that until March (2018), there will be two wells to be drilled,? Yunus said.

SAE plans to develop the 2x110 MW PLTP Baturaden geothermal power plant, which is targeted to start operation in 2024.

The company signed the power purchase agreement with state-owned electricity firm PT PLN in 2014, under which the electricity from the estimated US$900 million power plant project will be sold to PLN at a tariff of 9.47 US cents per kWh.
