Geothermal reserves found in Flores-Alor

The area stretching from Flores to nearby islands of Solor, Adonara, Lembata and Alor in East Nusa Tenggara province (NTT) are believed to be rich in geothermal resource. The recent survey shows that the existing geothermal reserves have a power generating capacity of between 100 MW and 150 MW, Antara news agency reported on Saturday.
"If the geothermal resource is properly developed, it can meet the electricity demand from all parts of Flores regency," said Manarep Pasaribu, the head of the local office of the state owned electricity company PLN.
Two geothermal power plants have been planned in the province. They are the Ulumbu power plant in Satarmese district, Manggarai regency, and the Mataloko power plant, Ngada district, Flores. In Ulumbu, exploration activities have found goethermal resources capable of generating 6.5 MW of power, accordig to the news agency, but it did not provide details on the reserves in Mataloko. (*)
