Several German investors have dropped their plan to conduct research and feasible study on the three rivers to build hydro power plants on Seram Island in Maluku province, the Investor Daily Indonesia newspaper reported in its Wednesday edition.
They originally planned to launch the research and feasibility study in August 2005.
?The cancellation was because they (German investors) are still doubtful about the security in Maluku though the situation and conditions are more conducive and safe,? Maluku?s mining and energy office chief GMA E Simarmata told the Antara news agency in Ambon on Tuesday.
The three rivers are Wai Isal River in North Seram subdistrict, Wai Mala River in Central Maluku regency and Wai Tala River in Kairatu subdistrict, Western Seram regency. Te local authorities estimates the three rivers can produce 60MW, 25 MW and 21 MW. But the total investment for the power plant is estimated at Rp 1 trillion. (*)
