Gold miner falls into 25-meter pit

An illegal miner is in a serious condition in hospital suffering from multiple fractures after falling into a 25-meter-deep pit in Central Kalimantan on Wednesday, The Jakarta Post reported Saturday.

Sources said Ayat, 23, slipped and fell into the pit in Murung subdistrict, North Barito regency, when he was trying to get a lump of gold from the pit abandoned by PT. Indo Muro Kencana.

The victim was retrieved by his friends and rushed to Puruk Cahu hospital. Hospital staff said that he sustained multiple bone fractures to the left leg and neck. (*)
