The government has begun drafting the 2026–2035 National Energy Plan (RUEN), inviting public input as it seeks to strengthen energy security and map future supply and demand, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said.

The process was launched through a kick-off meeting involving government agencies and stakeholders, marking the start of preparations for the next 10-year energy planning document.

Secretary General Ahmad Erani Yustika said the RUEN would serve as a key reference for policymakers and industry players in shaping Indonesia’s energy sector.

“This document will become a foundation for stakeholders and the government, particularly related ministries,” he said in a statement following the meeting held in Jakarta on April 17.

The ministry said it is also opening the drafting process to public participation, allowing experts and stakeholders to submit written input, data and analysis as part of the formulation process.

Under existing regulations, the RUEN is prepared on a 10-year basis and reviewed every five years, or earlier if needed. The plan outlines national energy demand, resource potential, supply strategies, decarbonisation targets, as well as investment needs and financing strategies.

It also includes regional energy planning across seven designated areas of the country.

The government aims to finalise and adopt the RUEN 2026–2035 by October 2026, around a year after the issuance of the latest National Energy Policy.
