Minister of Trade Thomas Lembong said that the ministry has decided to cancel an earlier plan to relax policy on the import of steel products to help protect local steel industry amid massive inflow of products from China, Kontan reported on Monday.
?There are certain sectors that must be protected,? the paper quoted the minister as saying recently.
As part of the recently introduced government first economic package policy, the ministry plans to revise Minister of Trade Regulation No 08/2012 on the procedure to import of steel products, which requires surveyor pre-inspection process, and import recommendation from related technical ministries.
Thomas said that the requirements will still be put in place to help protect the domestic steel industry. (*)
