A government commission is finalizing its recommendation on the contract of work of PT Freeport Indonesia, the gold giant firm in West Papua province, according to Minister of Environment Sonny Keraf.
Sonny was quoted by the Kompas daily as saying that the recommendation of the commission could be either in the form of reviewing, revising or elaborating the Freeport contract of work.
He said that the commission had been working from March-June. He added that the recommendation would be distributed to the related ministries.
Meanwhile, in the case of the fatal landslide incident that occurred in the Wanagon Lake, Sonny said that Freeport must provide a compensation for the local people and administration. (*)
