Government declares 3,778 IUPs as non-clean and non-clear

Director General for Mineral and Coal at the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, Thamrin Sihite, said that 3,778 mining permits (IUPs) of total 8,263 permits have been declared as ?non-clean and non-clear'. The remaining 4,485 mining permits are declared as ?clean and clear?.

He further said that as for mineral and coal mining in East Kalimantan, 574 IUPs have been categorized as 'non-clean and non-clear' and 840 permits are categorized as "clean and clear".

Thamrin targets to have all overlapping land claims resolved this year by local administratons and the Home Affairs Ministry.

Thamrin admitted that the biggest obstacle in resolving the land overlapping claims is the unclear borderline between one region and the neighboring region following the implementation of regional autonomy law. (giok)
